Now with less freaking out!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Lurked on the LS1tech forum and found out my one headlight up, one down issue isn’t new. Apparently Cardone (who rebuilds the motors) frequently wires them backwards when they rebuild them.
Is that infuriating? Yes.
Is their QC a drunk toddler? Sure seems like it.
Am I extremely relieved that it’s not something further up (more expensive)?
Absolutely.
Goodnight Oppo!

Apparently that one guy at Cardone (who rebuilds the motors) frequently wires them backwards when he rebuilds them.

Shouldn’t be too hard to test and rewire if needed before installation, but that’s not the point. They should be plug ‘n play.
One could avoid Cardone altogether. A quick search reveals that ACDelco replacements are about twice the cost. Yikes. I often like to recommend OEM, but I can understand why the Cardone is so tempting.

It has a lifetime warranty from O’Rielly. So when it inevitably goes bad, it’s a free replacement.
(it was $68 vs. the $300 the dealership told me)

RockAuto also lists about $68 for the Cardone, but offers the ACDelco for just under $150. However, there is a note saying that the ACDelco’s connector must be bought separately, to the tune of about $27. I imagine it could be wired up to the existing connector, though.

Return the one you have. Keep returning until you get one that works the way it should. Lifetime Warranty.
